Before the buzzing from this pump drives us insane is there a powerhead that I can fit into my Juwel filterbox to replace the over buzzy Juwel 600LPH unit? I don't need much flow as i'm also running a 1450LPH and 1600LPH circulation system in my marine tank. The Juwel filter is merely there to drag the water over my Rowaphos, Acivated Carbon and the heater.

I've tried removing air, removing the impellor and padded the thing in foam, but it still makes noise. It's the naff way the thing pushes into the filter box, there's no way it can dampen noise with two very stiff rubber seals.

That noise drove me to tearing out the filter and getting a different one. I even tried a new Juwel pump but that was as bad. With mine, the pump made that awful noise even when not in the filter casing, just loose in the water. I didn't try a different make though. You are obviously not using it with the Juwel media, but is there no other filter that would do the job?

I've never heard anyone else complain about the noise - no-one believed me that it was keeping me awake in the room above the tank.

The only time mine seems to rattle or buzz is when I don't have the little directional pipe on the outlet or when the lid on the filter vibrates. Usually just pressing the lid stops it for me.

Currently don't have the lights or flaps on top of my tank and don't hear a peep.

OP, do you have the little rubber washer on the hole where the outlet pipe is? if not that'll be where the rackets coming from.

I think the problem i've got is the pump itself. Even out of the housing it hums away loudly

I'm wondering if the impellor is poorly balanced. Compared to my powerheads it seems overly noisey and they're shifting much more water.

I'll give it another few days and then i'll take it back for a check at the lfs.

I'd like to keep the internal box as it houses all my equipment, treatments and even my nano skimmer, keeping the tank clutter free.
