Hi folks,

I am in the process of planning and compiling all the parts required to setup a 17 usg nano reef. Tank dimensions are 24"x15"x12" and can't decide on which powerhead/s to use.

I like the look of the Seio pumps but the smallest is the 620 gph which would work out to roughly 36x turnover and I know more is better but I think this would be overkill and would also leave a lot of possible dead spots.

The other option I am considering is either the Maxijet or Micro/MiniJet heads. The largest of the Micro/MiniJet pumps is 420 lph (6 x turnover) so would require 3 pumps to provide the desired 15 - 20 x turnover but they are very small. The Maxijet looks to be a better option and would only take 2 of the 600 lph model but is a much bigger unit.

Ultimately flow is the most important but I don't want them to be too obvious in the display so any guidance or alternatives would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Ben

I'd go for the Seio any day of the week. More flow is good and the Seio's really diffuse the flow as opposed to maxijets which are more of a point-flow type of system. Definitely go with the Seio :)

Depending on what you keep, 36x doesn't sound like it would be too much (to me anyway). My 5 gallon has 40x turnover when the pump is going full speed. But, I don't have low-flow critters like mushrooms in there exposed to direct current.

Well thanks for the input guys and after visiting a local marine specialist (who i didn't know was there) I have purchased the ...........

Seio M620. Looks good and I didn't know the flow was adjustable. I've almost got everything together now so it'll be diary time soon. :D
