sorry to be a pain!

As some of you know, i have recently set up a Juwel 190, which came with the compact H/Bioflo 600. Now, i want to keep the internal and have put a 1000 powerhead in the filter. Its sending more of an even flow around the tank and I presume filtration will be better, however in another thread someone said that its important to keep the smaller powerhead. After reading and contributing to threads lately about flows in tanks, i wondering whether i have done the right thing. Has anyone ever done this? Do you think i'm gonna get a better filtration or as Juwel say its gonna impact on the filtration and i'm not gonna get very good filtration?

thanks guys and girls.

I think I told you about the importance of flow through a Juwel filter.

As the filter starts to clog with 'the good stuff' the flow slows down which assists the lower portion of the filter to process nitrites. To speed up the flow by introducing a stronger powerhead does nothing to improve the overall performance of the filter. (it is a bit like wacking a dirty great big engine in a car without upgrading anything else!)

If you want better performance get a bigger filter :good:

Remember, a filter has been developed at considerable cost (even a Juwel :shifty: ) so messing with it without knowing the physics of the thing is not always benificial

cheers Doresy, see my thought is that the filter in the trigon 190 (600/standard H bioflo) is the exact same filter thats in the Juwel 240, however the powerhead in the 240 is a 1000, so for the sake of 50 ltrs. Do ya get me...the filter has the same amount of sponges and media.

I do see your way of thinking. If the 2 filters are infact the exact same (apart from the power heads) ie. the filter body size and sponge configuration etc then probably having the extra horse power will not do any harm but whether or not there is a gain only you will find out, eh? ;)

thanks again mate, like i say i have searched the intermacweb and there is nothing about this question. I can't be the only person in the world who has done this...am i?

it seems to be doin the job at the mo. :good:

I got an email back from Gordon Alexander from Juwel. Adding the 1000 will not hinder filtration and stocking levels can be upped.

the powerheads on all the juwel filters (except the reckords) are interchangeable :)
