Hi, I'm nearly ready to order my plants, probably from plantedtanks.com

I have a 30G low light setup with redwood, driftwood and grapevine root. I will dose plant nutrition and easylife easycarbo, substrate is Flourite dark 21kgs (s should have 3inches at back of tank 1/1.5 at front). At a later date i wil try a moss wall too.

Below is the list of plants that i like from the website, are these all fine for my setup or do they require more lighting? i may not buy all of them, but i'd like to try most of them. * = i will definately buy.

Also are there any other plants you'd recommend?

Gutted, just typed out a nice lengthy reply and it dissapeared when I pressed 'post'. Aaaargh, give me a min to start again.

Right you've gone offline now so I'll keep it brief this time.

All those plants will in theory be suitable for your tank. It's impossible to say for certain which ones will do best as it's often trial and error in low tech set-ups. If something grows well for you then get more of it etc.

As for the prices, potted will be in plastic pots and rock wool, plant and roots more developed etc. I'd get loose plants personally as it's best to trim the roots down before planting anyway.

HI James,

how annoying! i hate it when that happens!

Thanks for the tip, they makes sense about the roots, how far should i trim them down to?

thanks,
adam

I tend to trim the roots down to about 1-2cm depending on the plant. Doing this and removing dead leaves encourages new growth from the start.

Of the plants you listed, I have to reccommend hygro difformis. This stuff grows like a weed and fills space, such an easy plant and nice looking too. I used it a lot in my TOTM winner and also my 125L which I posted pics of a few weeks ago.

cool, yeah i like that plant too which is handy! I'm waiting for aquaessentials to re-stock their scissors, rake, tweezers kit, which should thn make trimming and planting easier!

which is the main Amazon Sword plant? i saw different latins names for swords, t wasn't sure which latin name is the 'common' one or most popular one.

cheers,

There's a few popular varieties but looking at that site the most common would be Echinodorus Bleheri.
