I found this little guy in one of the tanks at Petsmart... he was in with the snails (90% dead/dying) and the guy there have him to me for free because he had no clue what he was. I immediately noticed that he was a catfish... but for the life of me I cannot find any matches on this site. He's soooooo tiny... he is under the last hornwort leaf on the right. He blends in perfectly with the gravel. (Just look for two little fins sticking out horizontally from a pebble-looking mass. :p) Anyone have a clue what he is?

He is so thin and malnurished... I hope he makes it. :-(

Here he is circled in red:

I'm very frustrated right now, because the only catfish which looks like him is the "Scoloplax" which has absolutely ZERO info on it. *sigh*

Hmm...I can barely see him so I wouldn't be able to tell you what species he is. Can you give a description? :dunno:

He's teensy weensy... only a couple of cm long. Light brown, with little black eyes on the top of his head. His fins are sooo long, they almost look like wings. He's also got the characteristic little catfish whiskers.

He looks just like this guy:

...which worries me because there is absolutely NO information on them. :-(

looks like a banjo catfish to me too.

Well, regardless of what he/she/it is... what do I feed it? I have algae discs, freeze-dried bloodworms, tropical flakes, and I can (if necessary) catch some mosquito larvae from our pond to feed to the little guy. He's so cute, whatever he is.

yep get some small prefarable live bloodworm for him.

it would be best if you could put him in a bare bottom tank so you can see how much he eats better.

Ok, thanx for all the help guys!! He didn't touch the algae discs I dropped in last night.... so I'm off to buy some live/frozen foods!! :kana: One more question, though.... :*) What kind of tank parameters to they prefer? (ie- temperature, pH, fast/slow moving water, etc.)

Here is a MUCH better pic of him... I looked at some banjo catfish at the LFS and he looks nothing like them. :/ I also bought him some live bloodworms and he downed 3 teensy ones before he decided he'd had enough. He's soooo cute!

looks like the shape am build of a Platydoras costatus or talking catfish

not sure about the colours though. :dunno:

there are stipped ones an spotted ones and a browny stripped one...
but those apply to adult fish so yours may just not have its markings yet.
