I am buying two 25 gallon tanks exactly the same and was wondering if their is anyway of putting them together e.g tank out one spane of glass out of each side and joining them together and heavily add silicon to the gap?is this possible?

yes this is possable. you would need to take the end pain of glass out of each and then put silicone on the endges that touch each other. then you will need 3 pieces of glass which will overlap the joins on the front base and back. you will need to use pleanty of silicone on them and try not to get any bubbles and that should seal them. it may not look very neat though as you would see a glass strip running down the front of the tank but if you don't mind that, then that should work.

ste :)

BTW: the glass should overlap about 1.5" either side.

I would be more inclined to but the tanks together with just a hole cut in each. Removing the ends on both tanks will seriously weakon the tanks, the water pressure will push the front and back apart. Or you could add some sort of strapping device.

Personally I wouldnt bother, sell both tanks and buy a 50 gallon

Or, just put the two tanks next to each other, end to end with no cutting, keep community fish in one half and aggressive ones in the other! A kind of "divided 50 gallon"!

It would mean you could keep a greater variety of fish, and could look almost convincing if you had the decor in both halves consistent....

I was hopeing for a bigger tank for some cichlids but you can fit many in a 25 gallon compared to a 50 gallon. It sucks because i would just buy a 50 gallon from my lfs but the only sell set ups!

8) I like samage's idea. I would not try to "mold" those two tanks together.
If you must have a single 50 gallon I would either make a road trip to a place
that does sell a tank like that, or try to get one over the internet.

Cutting the tanks edges would be dangerous to the overall stability of the tank. I've nevr thought out this but maybe you could just cut a hole small enough for the fish into the two sides of each tank, the join them with a glass cylinder...? I have no idea, I'm only 15, but I'm guessing this might fix your problem, while keeping some stability in the aquariums. Sorry wasn't more help

I did something neat..I got 2 hex 2 gal tanks and have them together on a stand..On one side I have male betta and a couple tet ras and on other another betta and some mountain minnows..(white clouds)..I have live plant in each and some wood..Looks pretty..This is not my main tank situation, but another option that does not take up much space but can enjoy them in another area of my home
