Hi everyone! I have a 29G tall community tank with
2 aquaclear 200 filters,
heater,
airstone:
Current fish are:
2 small angels
2 small dojo loaches
1 platy
2 scissor tail rasboras
2 dwarf blue gouramis
1 black neon tetra
1 swordtail

My question is this: Is there a puffer that could go into this setup?

Thanks in advance!

If you literally want an answer to your question, then no. There is no puffer that will fit in there.

If you want any additional advice then the dojo loach aren't suitable long term and the rasbora and tetra should be in groups of 5 or more.

Sorry did not mention a few things in the original post. The tetra was an accident and was dropped in with the rasboras at the LFS and the kids did not notice it until they got it home. The dojo's will be rehomed to my sons 55G once they are bigger. I am hoping to rehome the platy, swordtail, rasoboras, black neon. That tank was started with absolutely no knowledge what so ever other that bad advice from the LFS! (go figure)

In the beginning there were 3 platys (2F 1M) there were 2 swordtails (1m 1f) there were 4 rasboras and the 1 tetra (which thinks its a rasobora by the way. The ones on the list are what were left after the inadvertant fish IN cycle.

Ok, so no puffer in the community which I kind of figured just thought I'd ask.

I've learned my lessons for sure about not asking for advice from somewhere other than the LFS!

My next question would be:I have an empty 10G tank are there puffers that are suitable for that? and what is a good setup?

Hey Shelby, for the 10 gallon you're in luck. Dwarf puffers will work. They only require 5 gallon for the first and 3 gallons for each additional. With overfiltration you could get three, one male/two female ratio preferred. I'm in the process of setting up a 5.5 gallon for a single now. They require extra filtration due to being messy eaters and like a heavy planted tank with lots or areas to explore. I've been researching them for awhile and they look like they will be a little more involved than your ordinary tropical fish. But everyone that has one/several seem to love them.

Does it have to be brackish? I have no experience with brackish fish at all. I also have no clue about live plants in tanks. I will research the DP's and see what I come up with. It's just an idea at the moment and I've never even seen a Dwarf Puffer..lol I have no clue where to get them, how to tell if they are male female.. but. it gives me something check into!

Thanks!

Nope, they're freshwater. Tiny little things though, max size 1.25 inch with huge personalities. The plants don't have to be live, fake will do. I just started my first planted tank with some help from waterdrop and so far so good. There is a thread on it here. My LFS will be ordering mine for me, $3.

Fair enough. Mistakes do happen due to bad LFS advice, no one will ever hold that against you. :)

Dwarf puffers aren't brackish so no worries there.
And the stocking of 5gal per fish is to do with rough territory size, not bioload as jmiller seemed to suggest.
With 10gal you are safe with 2, and could possibly push for 3 if it was very heavily planted. But 3 would hold no certainties. Where as more often than not 2 in a normal sized 10 gal would be fine.

I would be running an aquaclear 200 filter in the 10G as I have 2 of those doing nothing at the moment!

Thanks. Will continue to research.
