I think one of my new rasboras has mouth fungus. He has a white round fluffy thing on his bottom lip. I noticed it this morning, it definately wasn't there last night as I was taking pictures and you can't see it on any of the photos. As soon as I noticed I did some quick research and then put melafix in the tank. I am going to do a water change tonight (approx 50%), put some filter floss in my filter to help it clean the water a bit better (it is an old filter with only one cylindrical sponge), and then continue dosing with melafix for the next week.

Does this sound ok? Or is there anything else I should be doing? I can't get down to the lfs to get anything stronger than melafix until saturday afternoon, but I will go down then if you guys think I need something stronger.

Aaarrrggghhhh, have just been to do my water tests to give you guys the exact readings, Ammonia - 0.25, Nitrite - 0, Nitrate - 20, pH - 7.2. Where in the £$%& did the ammonia come from, it wasn't there yesterday!? Grrrrrr. There was a little bit of food left over from their feed this morning, could that have caused it? And one of my plants appears to be dying and disintegrating, could that be it?

I hate ammonia.

Forgot to say, My tank was fully cycled two weeks ago and I continued adding ammonia until I got the fish 4 days ago. They all seem ok, even the one with the fungus, eating fine etc.

Thanks wilder, a useful article.

My rasbora still has his little white lump on his mouth but he is eating as greedily as ever and playing in the filter flow with the others.

I'm still wondering what could have caused the ammonia spike though, I think it might be the plant as one of the large leaves is nearly half disintegrated now. I think I will rip it out tonight.

For the little white bump you will need to treat with anti internal bacteria med.
