Possible Dropsy?

So my new betta might have dropsy... I'm really upset bc I've only had him for about 2 weeks and have become quite attached to him....I fed him some peas hoping it is just a backed up system, I guess we will find out, about how long will it be (if it is a backed up system) before I see a reduction in his tummy? Although I have a gut feeling it is dropsy...

If he is still eating then thats a good sign...if you suspect dropsy then you can tell for sure because the scales over his whole body will stick out like a pine cone, he will lose colour and become inactive. If thats the case then there is not much you can do to save him because his internal organs are damaged beyond repair. I'm suspecting he has a case of constipation and feeding him peas can help to push out the faeces. You could also try a short dip in epsom salt. Grab a large container and fill it with your aquarium water 1 tblsp of epsom salt to 1 gal of water. Swim him in it for 1/4 to 1/2 hour or until he starts to release faeces then put him back in the tank. Don't forget to top your tank up again. Try doing this on a daily basis until he shows signs that his pipes are working. I would also cut his feeding down to 1 feed per day and even fast him for a day or two. How often do you feed him per day and what food do you give him.

well he is doing much better, I fed him some peas and his tummy has went down, it just scared me bc I had a fish in with him that had dropsy

My older Betta was getting constipation often. He looked like he swallowed a marbled and couldn't sink. I fed him the green balls of brocoli for a couple of days, because the pea would sink and he couldnt swim down to get them. Now a pea once a week is in their diet plan! Haven't had a problem since.
