I have two tanks, 50 gal and 15 gal. I introduced some new fish into the 50 gallon tank after quarantine, noticed that some of the new fish were so small that some tetras were trying to eat them. So I pulled them out and put them into the 15 gal tank. Now fish are dying in both tanks of what appears to be columnaris. All I had at home was melafix and fish Mox. I tried them, read that furan 2 was best for columnaris, and ordered a box. While waiting for Furan 2, I treated the tanks with melafix and fish mox with no success. Two fish died last night in the 50 gal tank. Furan 2 got here today.
I dosed the 50 gal tank. Now several fish in the 15 gal tank are looking ill. I am about to dose the 15 gallon tank with furan 2. That would leave me with not enough furan 2 to treat again. Now I also read that I should have combined kanaplex with the furan 2. Did I in both tanks look ill, more in the 15 gal, though. I don't have kanaplex, but I do have 24 packs of maracyn 2. Can I and would it do any good to add Maracyn 2 to the tanks?

I really want to walk away and let your fish die because you posted this in the emergency section and didn't look at any of the sticky links at the top of the emergency section. There is a link on what to do if your fish get sick. Another on not using anti-biotics unless you know what the problem is. And another on start here with your emergency.

You should really try to identify the problem before adding chemicals, especially anti-biotics like Furan, Furan 2, Kanaplex and anything else people sell you. Anti-biotics should only be used s a last resort on confirmed bacterial infections that have not responded to normal treatments. Improper use and mis-use of anti-biotics has lead to drug resistant bacteria that kill people, animals, birds, reptiles and fish.

Can you post some pictures of the sick fish?
What symptoms do the fish have?

How long did you quarantine the new fish for?
All new fish, plants, shrimp, or other life forms, should be quarantined for at least 2 (preferably 4) weeks before they are added to an established aquarium.

What other fishes are in the tank?
How long have the tanks been set up for?

How often and how do you clean the filter?
What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the water in the tank?

How often do you do water changes on the tank and how much do you change?
Do you gravel clean the substrate when you do a water change?

-------------------
Melafix doesn't do anything except make the tank smell like a wet Eucalyptus forest.

I have no idea what Fish Mox is, but if you start mixing chemicals you can kill the fish faster than the disease does.

-------------------
Wipe the inside of the glass down with a clean fish sponge.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week or until we identify the problem. The water changes and gravel cleaning will reduce the number of disease organisms in the water and provide a cleaner environment for the fish to recover in.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it is added to the tank.

Clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks. However, if the filter is less than 6 weeks old, do not clean it. Wash the filter materials/ media in a bucket of tank water and re-use them. Tip the bucket of dirty water on the garden/ lawn.

Increase surface turbulence/ aeration when using salt or medications because they reduce the dissolved oxygen in the water.

Post some pictures that are in focus and clearly show the problem.

Stop adding things until you know what the problem is.
