Been using melafix in 30 l tank for 3 days now as one blue guppy has signs of fin rot which he unfortunately came with and hoped would heal on his own with good water quality, but thismorning he is floating around and sinking to the bottom hardly swimming at all. O know he seemed weaker before but could the melafix have damaged him further? Has anyone experienced this before?

Sorry to hear things arn't going too well. Melafix shouldn't make them worse though, kinda defies the point of it if it did. Im just guessing it's early signs of fin rot rather then serious fin rot.

I'm afraid it doesn't sound too hopeful for your guppy if he's in that state :(

I have never had much luck with Melafix myself, nothing surives the full week course of treatment for me guppy wise.

Thank you for your reply, he was dead within half an hour :( j will learn not to stock from possibly unhealthy sources. Others seem fine fingers crossed :)

I'm sorry to hear that. Guppies just dont seem to be as tough and 'hardy' as they are made out to be these days. Sometimes your just unfortunate to pick up one thats got something. After all they are always kept in ridiculous amounts in the shops in one small tank, fin rot could have been the result of fin nipping in there.

Next time you get some just ask if you can check them out in the bag once they catch them, make sure they are all ok and not too tatty. Sometimes they just catch any old thing and bag it. Or you can try a different shop if you have one.

How long had you had this guppy?

I'd had him at least 4 months now. Concerningly now the last surviving guppy also looks pesky. No sign of fin rot or any visible disease but he kind of wobbles from side to side as he swims and usually the most active in my tank he is nOw chilling near the bubble tube. I did a 40% water change at lunchtime although they were cleaned out last weekend. Hoping he perks up he has always been so healthy. The guppies seem so weak. We have had no death apArt from filter related mishap and one neon tetra disease but not fOr ages :(
Thank you for your helP any ideas on the wobbly swim?

It could be the shimmies? It is not a disease, but rather a reaction to a lack of electrolytes in the water

Water parameters checked with test strips (I know not perfect) and by man at aquarium shop with proper kit- all good. Guy thought both a Molly and a guppy had swimbladder and sold us some treatment for it. Could this be caused by a bacterial infection? The Molly was thin but acted fine til last 24 hours still eating and swimming normally. If it was swimbladder any ideas. All that's left in the tank are three female mollies and two young danio, all seemingly happy
