I bought 4 females for my community tank on monday. I already had a male in there and got a 10 litre tank for him.
When i bought the females I had to put them in with the male overnight because the heater for 10L tank wasnt working.
Next day moved the male to own tank after he had chased them all.
2 of the females were larger than the others and both died a couple of days later. The looked bloated and i think they had dropsy, as they were struggling to breath.

I now have 2 left and one looks perfect with no problems, but a pure white female has a black patch on her head, raggy fins with a dark edge and is only using one pec fin.
The only medication ive got is protozin and put this in because i thought it could be fungal. I cant find any diagnostic help apart from bettasrus.com, and nothing matched the symptoms.
Can anyone offer any help as to treatment or diagnosis?

I'm afraid all I can tell you is that you should keep the water conditions up and to never do that again.

Also, can you tell us if you're taking about a betta or gourami (I believe it's the former)?

they are female bettas

i dont think putting the male in with them was the cause.
im gonna ring the lfs tomorrow to see if any other fish have been affected cause the 2 that died were bigger when i bought them, i let my girlfriend choose them and didnt have a good look until we got back!! so they could have had signs of dropsy when i bought them!!
