Poor Molly...

Hey Guys..

Had a really bad night last night!! My little parrot Molly got quite badly hurt!!! She landed on a door as my mum was shutting it and got her head trapped :( We managed to get a vet to see her at 8 last night and they said she was in shock and that she might lose her eye!! :( The right eye had been almost pushed back into her head and there was a dent under the eyelid...

Today, after a long night sitting up with her as she couldn't sit on a perch, she seems a lot better. She's been eating and drinking and has even been outside to see the fish in the pond :) Her eye has swollen very big now and is starting to bruise! She'll probably be blind in the right eye at least unless she is very lucky... But she seems to be doing ok, she's getting around fine and not at all stressed out like i thought she should be!!

On a more cheerful note.. My mum felt really guilty cos she thought it was her fault so she bought Molly a new cage!!! She went a bit over the top with it as its HUGE!!! But Molly seems to like it and its a corner cage which is good!!!

My mum also bought me a new cage for my African Grey as i guess she felt guilty about nearly killing my bird... lol Picking that up tomorrow..

Anyway, i just thought id tell you guys this... even though Mollys doing better today she's still very ill as im sure you can imagine... she's been SO tired, though she's still been talking and chirping :)

Hopefully she'll be back to normal soon and im praying that she wont lose her sight in that eye!!!

Anyway, sorry this was so long... Was a stressful night as im sure you can imagine...

Jess

Actually, no! Got a deal! £220 for the two cages which is pretty good! And Indie's is even bigger!!!

Here's a pic of her bad eye incase anyone wasn't feeling sympathetic already!!!! You cant see it so well in this pic cos you havent got the other eye in it to compare, but its swollen to about twice the size of the other and unfortunately she isn't asleep there, she just cant open it :-( Poor ickle Molly... She's all fluffed up too... feeling poorly :(

She's so sweet though, trying to be brave in her new cage, bless her!!

Yeah, I m going to phone my vet tomorrow and make sure that they would be ok to treat Symon.

I really hope Molly is ok and I will be very careful of similar accidents.

I do actually have an avian vet but i wasn't able to get hold of him! The vet who looked at her was the one we use for the dog and cats and she was really good. Molly goes back friday and we will be referred to another Avian vet to see if they can save the eye!! Keep your fingers crossed for her guys!!! Poor little Molly... Even i feel guilty now!!

EDIT - Sorry, you posted at the same time!lol As long as you're very careful to check where Symon is (great name btw, same as my cat! :D ) you should be ok... But obviously accidents happen as they did with molly... Make sure to get a good local vet and maybe some insurance for him? Its always reassuring!

I thought Symon was a great name, we got him from Symon's Pets which is a local pet shop where I got him. They pronounce is Simmons but I pronounce it Simon as that's what I thought it was and I though it suited this cheeky chappy.

I really do hope Molly is ok, but I know thay even if she does lose her eye that she will be loved and cared for.

Please let us know how you and Molly get on. :)

Thank you :) I will let you know how she does!! You get so attached to birds... I felt awful last night thinking she might die!!!

Hopefully Symon will have better luck than Molly, shes always getting herself into trouble!lol And yes, his name definately suits! :D

OMG :-( :-( :-( :-(
when i was reading your post and you described how poor molly was hurt i felt tears in my eyes!
it so scary knowing that no matter how catious we are animals still find ways to get hurt
just the other day pickle (my budgie) was riding around on me and i stopped playing with him for a secod to get a coffee and he flew straight into a window hard!
then he flew off down the hallway and i couldn't find him for what seamed like forever :-(
i was so scared expecting to find him dead or badly injured but i found him later sitting on my bed quietly
i think he was in shock
anyways
i feel for you
and i feel so sorry for your mother having to feel such guilt when it was not her fault at all
molly is a precious little birdy and i hope she is doing well
even if she loses an eye i know she will do just fine
animals can happily live with disabilities when in good homes and you sound like the best mommy molly could possibly have
ok, i'm getting all mushy :*)
glad to hear she made it :)

good luck and keep us posted :flowers:

All vets should be able to at least give first aid and emergency care to birds, even if they don't have a particular interest. They should also be able to direct you to a specialist.
It tends to be the older generation that aren't really interested in treating birds.

I have a particular interest in "exotic" species, but unfortunately my boss isn't too keen and we don't really have the facilities to do as much as I'd like. There is also a very good specialist not too far away, so I have to send most things there.

Sorry to hear about your bird, but you'd be amazed how many regain their vision once any inflammation clears up.

Cheese Specialist - a friend of mine is a vet in Newcastle who has some interest in exotics. Sorry I can't remember the name of the practice at the moment, but I will try to find it.

 I hope she gets better, poor Molly! I know how you feel last month i came home to find one of my budgies (Sweetness)with blood covering one side of her face it absolutely terrified me!! But we cleaned her up and the next day took her to the vet. Sweetness had been suffering form a slight case of scaly face and the vet think she tried to rub one of hte lumps off but cut herself in the process. But sweetness was fine she was flying around the vets office and bit the vet!! I'm sure Molly will be fine birds seem very resilient!!

Hey,

Awww... thanks for all the nice stuff you guys have said... Im gonna go all mushy too in a minute!lol I think, at the moment at least, Molly is completely blind in her right eye :( She keeps walking into thinks and tries to bite if you try to pick her up from that side, and as she NEVER bites im guessing its cos she cant see you coming... Poor Molly...

She has seemed a lot better today though!! :) I picked up my Grey's new cage today and Molly was hanging off the toys as i was putting them in!! The Grey hasn't been in it yet as "someone" has been having a look round... lol But heres a pic of madam in it! :D

I guess as she's being so active thats a good sign... She's trying to open her eye a lot more now, and although it looks awful i guess it could be worse... Here's a pic of it.. Not very clear but better than the last! If anyone knows anything about eyes they might be able to tell me if it'll be ok... Obviously its very swollen and the actual eye is just red... Bless her... Must be so sore!

So... I think Mollys getting better... She'll go back to see a vet friday and hopefully ill have some good news!! :D

Oooh, btw, Pickle was VERY lucky!! A little swallow flew into my window today and he died :( Hopefully pickle will learn... Though more likely he'll expect his Mum to replace all the glass windows with netting so it doesnt hurt when he wants to fly into them... lol Bless..
