Poor fishies! i caught an Ich outbreak in my cycling 10 gallon today. Poor little babies.

Aw well, they got meth. blue to help them out and some wee bits of salt.

Now instead of seeing fish, I get to see blue water, and shapes that might be fish in the blue water ;)

When you do your Ich treatments, do you go 2 ich cycles, more cycles or less cycles? This is more a curiousity than anything else..

... also, has anyone had any success getting rid of it with just salt? I've read that some people have done it, but it would be interesting to hear first-hand accounts, as I do not really view the sources I read it from as reputable.

Thanks, (and wish the fishies good luck, they need it the poor things!)

Salt and upping the temp has worked for me with guppies. I don't know about bettas, though - I don't see why it wouldn't.

However, ich is a parasite, and meth. blue probably won't be too effective - I don't believe that meth blue is an anti-parasitic. You might want to try something like coppersafe, which works great on parasites. Good to have around - I've had some bettas with velvet before, and it works pretty well.

Good luck with your sweeties.

I researched it last night before I treated the tank, and there were numerous sites that said it would work on ich. (I guess I'm guilty of the "if many say it its worth a try")

I'll keep on meth blue for a few days, if I don't see any change, I'll switch over to jungles. i have that on hand.

They don't sell that copper stuff near me.. I've basically stocked up on thecommon meds around here in case I had a problem -- my choices are basically meth blue, malachite green, (which I didn't purchase because it made me very wary) and jungles products. o_O

i would stick to the ich meds. iv heard of salt working but i wouldn't risk it. upping the temp and maybe a teaspoon of salt per 5g will help a whole lot

gl :D

Alright, I went to Nature and picked up a product called "Nox-ich". A lady at the store who has fish at home swears by it, so I thought I'd give it a go. Got the meth blue outta the tank (yay, cry the fish!) and a bit of salt..

The cory cats and tiger barbs are across the way saying "Ha ha, we don't have ich and you do, nyah nyah."

I'm in an odd humor. Hopefully it'll work as well as the lady says it will. :)
