Poor Fry ...

I was watching my pregnant guppy give birth to her fry and in the same second as the fry came out, the mum turned around and eat it.....I bet she thought a well deserved meal for pushing so hard ...

I've always found it strange behaviour.
I'm not sure of any other living thing that would do this to their young.
Plenty of plant cover always helps so they can hide.
