I read in drobbins question that pool filter sand is easier than play sand as far as cleaning it goes. My new tank that I'm setting up is going to have sand substrate, so I was wondering where I would buy this. As far as I know there are only two outdoor pools in the whole state so we're not exactly 'swimming' with pool stores. Thanks.

Why not Try a potting sand Called Silver sand. It doesn't cloud the tank and looks very natural. I've just put it in one of my tanks and it is very pleasing. Play sand is very dirty and has a funny yellow colour.

Yes it is dirty, but you should see the finished result. Looks more realistic than any sand ive veer seen in aqauarium. I love how it looks. Pool filter sand looks good too tho ;)

pool filter sand is at any pool supply store. and the difference between pool sand and play sand is that pool sand has been washed and cleaned of any red clay /dirt that might be in it. I used to work on pools way back when and i remeber a fellow thought he would "save" some money and use play sand to put in his pool filter. well when the filter turned on it put about an inch thick of red clay in the bottom of his pool once settled  . it took one of our pool cleaners about 2 weeks to get it all out, diatamacous earth was his friend :D so if you use play sand wash it thoroughly. or find pool filter sand.
