i recently read that pleco's grow according to their tank size and although their body stops growing, their organs don't or something and it is bad for them. we have two, one in a 29 gallon tank (he's about 8inches long) and one in a 55 gallon tank (he's about 10 inches long). these are heated tanks. i told my dad about the growth thing and he thinks we should move them to our outside pond (with goldfish and kois). will they be ok in an outside pond ? or do they need to be in heated water? we live on the northern california coast, where weather is pretty constant year round and the temperature of the pond stays in the 60s (except those few days a year when we have freakishly cold weather (35-42 degrees). we just want them to have room to grow and be healthy... is this a good idea?

appreciate any advice.

no he wont do good in a pond, dont put him in there. they whole tamnk thing is a load of crap. the fish will keep growing and growing until he reaches his full size. no his gut do not grow faster than his body, if so he would explode and i know that doesn't happen to plecos.

you COULD put him in the pond, but i wouldnt adivse it. !. you will not ever see him again 2. its to cold 3. its crazy

Altho, i had a pleco in a COLD water tank for bout 6 months, he grew fine cept when i moved him. He died....

dont put them in ponds, plecs etc tropical fish, ie tropical set up, koi coldwater fish, ie coldwater setup!
