Well we just moved into a new home and the pond there has been running for 8 years, well since i have played around with it, it has started leaking. I was going to drain it and re coat it anyways. So my problem being, the old coat well not come off, i have got some off, but some sealant still remains, could i just seal over it? Also does the surface have to be dry b4 i paint the coat on, thanks.

hi
im assuming your talking about pond paint?

if so depends which you get. i wouldnt reccomend using pond paint at all tbh. they all start to peel/flakes off.

best to get it fiberglassed properly. will last alot longer and work out way cheaper in the long run.

i have learned and the pond needs to be glassed this year.

G4 is a good "paint" to use, works a treat and isn't as prone to flaking out on you. You pay for that however.... It's also fairly hard to find however... A few people are using this after a good 15 yrs that I know, so it should last reasonably well, better than liner at least, that does about 5yrs IME regardless of brand

The surface will need to be clean and dry. Get any and all flakes of the old stuff off and wipe off any and all algea and other muck on the surface. You then apply, I think, 8 coats from memory, possibly as many as 11 though, to the surface to seal it up, 48 hours between coats and you're off :good:

This said, pond paint is something that I've never used, only read/heard about coutesey of friends/friends of family and had the folks say no, too expencive.... You're mileage may vary if others on here have tryed it and found it no good...

All the best

ive only read bad things about any type/brand of pond paint. the cost of g4 works out all most as much as getting it glassed proerly. fiberglassing will last alot longer than anything else out there.
