Pond film

i recently put plants in my 100 gallon pond with no filter. It now has a film at the top of the water that is like rainbow colored. How can i fix it? Why is it there?

That sounds like oil. Water changes are the only way to get rid of it without a filter.

What do you have around the pond. If you are not going to make a mess of your prize patio or decking you could just overfill it and let it run off the top.

Do you think that the pond needs a filter. Its been raining for like 2 days straight with it overflowing but the film is still their.
