I'm a bit sceptical placing this into my ponds..... It says that it will prevent algea growth in my ponds, but am scared that it may affect the fish as well..... anybody got experience and how well does it work.... I have a problem with the hairy type of algea....

Placing barley straw or an extract of barley straw into the pond should resolve the algae problem. It is safe if you follow the dosage instructions, if you're not already treating the pond with other treatments (ignoring this may result in a overdose which will adversely affect your fish) and preferably use it with the pond when the humidity level is low; hot weather depletes the oxygen level of the pond and so do medications. I've used such products a couple of times and it hasn't changed the behaviour of my fish.

Which product are you using? It should state whether or not it is suitable for ponds which are populated with fish and whether or not it is compatible with submerged pond plants etc.

It is an Australian product called "Science International" and it warns not to overfeed whilst using the product, "Pond Algae block For crystal clear water".... Surely algae is a plant and if it kills plants, It will kill my plants as well???
