Is polystyrene OK to be used in a sump - my return pump is a lot quieter when there is a polystyrene underneath it lifting it off the base.

Thanks.

I have an OR 2500 in the sump which is driving me, and the other half, mad !!

It just seams to be noisey - either used with the suction cups directly on the base or with some polystyrene under it.

It's connected to hard piping using some flexible pipe.

Any suggestions??

Maybe try suspending it in mid water with fishing line or something (so it has nothing to vibrate against). If its connected by hard piping though this might not fix it (depends on what is making the noise).

Yeah, does the pump rattle by itself or is it just vibrating and reverberating the glass? Has it always done this, or is the noise a recent problem?

It's a new pump and there is no rattle - more of a vibration.

It's not touching the glass and I have tried it on and off the polystyrene. It's a bit better on the polystyrene so that's where it's going to stay for the time being.

After a while it becomes sort of background noise and to be honest the missus is making more noise (about it) than the pump is !!!

Are the pipes coming off the pump touching the stand anywhere? If so, a little styrene there would help too.

Lemme guess, the missus isn't so keen on the fish tank in the first place? ;)

Anyone know where you can get those little rubber suction things? I think my power heads need a replacement.
