Ive got a three foot tank with 2 Small Angels, 3 Swordtails, 2 Guppies, 2 Bala Sharks and 4 Neon Tetras. Whenever its feeding time they come rushing to the top like they are starving. I feed them quite alot and they seem to have a good go at it, i come back 10 mins later and all the food seems to be gone. Then during the day they have nibbles at my plants and then in the arvo the same feeding frenzy happens. Although one of the female swordtails and one of the female guppies look pregnant so that could be why they are eating so much, the tank gets less than clear after 4-5days. Am I feeding them too much or not? and is there an easy way of clearing the tank. I have running throughout the day an undergravel filter plus a seperate biowheel filter.

I cant understand it! :/ -_- :*)

Hi and Welcome.

In order to help you, can you please answer these questions:
1. How long has your tank been up and running (with fish in it)?
2. Is your tank cycled? (please follow my link in my sig if you aren't sure)
3. What are your water parameters? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, KH and GH)
4. How are you cleaning the tank? Are you aware of the need to maintain the beneficial bacteria in both the filter and gravel.

You are aware that fish's appetites don't have an "off" mechanism. IOW, most fish would gorge themselves to death, given the chance. So being hungry is like a permenant state for most fish.

I can't be sure until I know the answers to your questions but at first glance this sounds as if you are having a bacterial bloom in your tank due to the tank either not being cycled, or due to the filter being over-cleaned every few days. I am worried that this is the case because if so, your fish are in grave danger :(

Another horrid thought: when you said you have "running throughout the day and undergravel filter" you are not implying you turn it off at night? If so, you really need to read my article.

In addition there is the issue of the type of fish you have in your tank - you have a major potential problem with some of them. However, I would like to address one issue at a time. Don't worry - whatever the problem is, stick with us and we'll help you sort it :)
