We've just brought a polka-dot catfish and at the moment he's only about 4inches long. The chappie in the shop said that he would grow up to about 8 inches but after looking on the internet the size seems to vary! At the moment he's in a 3ft tank and we are prepared to move him as he grows, but we'd really like to know how big he's likely to get. Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you mean Synodontis angelicus - if so your 3ft tank won't be large enough when full grown. They can and do attain anything between 7 - 10" - so be prepared. What are they other fish in your tank ?

Yes it is Synodontis angelicus and that has helped us out. Thanks. We are hoping to buy a bigger tank in the very near future. At the moment we have no other fish in the tank as it is a relatively new set up. Maybe looking at getting some clown loach and a pictus catfish. Still not sure at the moment.

Both lovely fish, but both require min 4ft tank and 75 US gallons ++
Clown loach needs to be in groups of 4+ and pictus in groups of 3+

what size tank u have now?

We have a 3ft tank at the moment. We are hoping to get a 4ft or 5ft tank, it depends what room we have! The way things are going we'll probably get both. We already have a Fluval 800 with small fish and an Aqua One with guppies. Fish crazy!!!
