Mornin all,

My plecs been acting wierd today. Fed them as normal this morning, he looks his usual perky self, good colour fins up etc. But twice now I've caught him lying on the surface of the water belly up.

Never seen him do this before. About to check my water paras but in the meantime anyone got any ideas or seen this before?

OK Paras as follows

NO3 - 25mg/l
NO2 - 0mg/l
GH - 6d
KH - 3d
PH - 6.5
Amm - 0

Nothing seems out of the ordinary. PH has been dropping over the last couple of weeks from around 7.2 thinks this is from a new large piece of bogwood recently added.

2 of my commons do that. They scrounge flake food from the surface. Wait until he does it & sprinkle in a bit of food. It's pretty cool.

These 2 plecs, and only these 2 can see when I thaw a bunch of brine shrimp for all the tanks. They wait at the surface upside down, & I can squirt an eyedropper full of brine shrimp right in their mouths. I think commons will eat nearly anything.

yep - I've heard of plecs feeding from the surface too.

Do you feed algae wafers or cucumber?

I've just been told 'Mr Catfish' (our common) does it when we feed freeze dried tublifex - Lorna says he comes up, swims around anf finds it then eats the whole soggy cube

Thanks,

He does eat from the surface from time to time. He still appears fine today so I'm sure he'lll be alrite
