Am i correct in thinking that this cat is known as the Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps?

I seem to be confused between the Above , the plecostomus, the sailmouth and spotted.

Is this all the same Fish?

I have a limited Knowledge on this Cat , Has anyone got one to show or tell me more about it.
I have been given a small 3 inch one from a guy who has packed up so i took it as there where few left for him to give away.

I have a feeling this might be one of those monsters but not sure. If it is what growth / time scale are we looking.
It needed a home , but a little confused on what it is. It does seem to be spotted and has an unusual fin for a cat?

Thanks

Have you got a picture? There are hundreds of different species of plec. Common names tend to be shared between a few of them, it's best to get a proper ID from a decent photo :)

I will try to get on it. But my Camera is a bit naff at the moment so will not be until payday on Friday until i get one . Its so small i am notsure it would be much use.

But i willget onto it later. If someone has i picture i can compare of similar size i might be able to identify. The guy could not remember what it was but said it was a Good Algae eater which gives me an idea.

Commonly sold species are:

Liposarcus pardalis aka "Common Plec": http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...p?species_id=88
These grow large, 12-15"+ is the norm, can exceed this.

Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps aka "Gibby" or "Sailfin": http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=148
Can grow to 2ft, 18"+ being very common.

Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus aka "Gold Spot": http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=177
Planet Catfish says it grows to 12" (not including tail) - have heard of bigger but not seen one personally.

Ancistrus sp. 3 aka "Common Bristlenose": http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...p?species_id=49
Grows to about 5", males have bristles on the face at maturity, females sometimes have a few small ones around the lip at maturity, some are completely bare.
