Plecos That Stay About 12inch

High im looking for a pleco that will grow to about 1ft.If you know any please let me know,thanks!

Check the pinned topic '30, Plecs under 8"'. I dont know of any that top out at exactly 12" but sailfins, commons all exceed that but in a smaller aquarium may top out at 12"?

Common Pleco's usually get about 18inches usually, if not more. There are not to many plecos that grow exactly to 12inches. Usually it is smaller then that or bigger then that.

Get a sailfin if you want one toexceed 12". They look better. Commons are just plain boring for looks.

Dont get either a common or a sailfin - the common will usually stay smaller, around 15" but can and may reach 18", but sailfins will get to 24" in some instances, usually at least 18". Putting one in a smaller tank and hoping it will only reach 12" is a really bad idea, I'd ignore that advice.

Many hypostomus species will only get to 12", I'd recommend a nice rusty plec (I think the new L no is L310 but I'd check that on Planet Catfish), but they are slow growing, and apart from the rusty - fairly hard to find as many LFS will sell commons as hypostomus sp when they're not. If in doubt count the dorsal rays (the spines in their dorsal/top fin), as if I remember rightly 7 rays means it's a hypostomus, anything more and it's probably a common.

Another nice one is the L001, they usually max out at between 10" and 16", 12" being the average - but it all depends on tank size and companions (as L001s, despite being beautiful, are territorial and not very good with other plecs).

Yeah, but they're so hard to find. I only get 3 or 4 species of plecs were I live!

I've found L001's easier to find than BNs, they're as commonly available as...erm...commons lol. Also known as gold spots, or sometimes leopard plecs (but be careful - as gibbies/sailfins are also sold as leopard plecs). Look for a brown plec with orange/gold spots. Looks like a gibby as they're both from the same family, so both have the sail fin - just the colours are the opposite way around (ie. gibbies are gold with brown spots and L001s are brown with gold spots)

Rusties are also known as bruno plecs, and look like this:

Rusties are/were (when I got mine) easily found.

he wants plecs over 8"'s at around 12"s so why say check te pinned topic about plecs under 8"???
