Hi,
I'm considering getting a pleco for my new 25 gallon tank but have been told that pleco's and under gravel filters aren't compatible. Anyone have any insight into this statement?

I'm not sure where that comment has come from but i can't see any harm.

only problem i can see is that some plecs need sand to be happy which you can' run with UGF

for your 25 gallon don't buy a common or gibbicep/sailfin, both of these grow too big for your tank.

I wouldn't suggest using UGF's but that's on principal more than harm to Plecos. Where did you hear that though? Plecos shouldn't have any problem with a UGF and my LFS keeps dozens of them in tanks with UGF's no problems.

For a 25 gallon, get a Bristlenose or equally small plec.

Thanks for the advice. I was told at the LFS that pleco's and ugf's didn't get along and I also read it at another site but can't remember which one. :(

The only real harm i could see is if you had a gib or common ( others im sure) that like to dig alot.....They may shift the UGF around or even become trapped (maybe :p )....Personally id spend the money and get a HOB filter....their fairly cheap and you dont have a huge tank so it wont be expensive to begin with.

I read that high protein diets can cause stomach troubles..check your brand of food and see if it really high in protein if so switch to a lesser brand and try that.

good luck !!
