hello again, i own a common plec and i know you guys have been gettig on my case about getting him to a bigger tank. id like to announce that iv got my new 20g up and running and the pleco will be liveing there. its very new just put fish in it today so theres no alge yet for him to eat, that shouldn't be a problem in a couple weeks thogh. will a 20g be big enogh for him? id put him in now but he despises alge tabs -_-

In the end your common pleco can get huge.....I mean 10-12".

Even a 20g tank will not hold it in the end. My brother had a huge one and it would eat a whole head of romaine lettuce in a few days.

10-12 inches? That's tiny! A common pleco can grow anywhere from 18-24 inches. 18 inches is the most common size though.

I have a common pleco that is 13 inches in a 75G. To be honest, I think he is slightly cramped in even that size of a tank. In my honest opinion, a tank of at least 100G is mandatory for a common pleco. I used to think that about 60G or so would be ok for an adult common, but from personal experience you should have at least a 100G if you wish to house the common for its entire life.

Cat you say that, although from what I can see you have 3 plecos in a 75g tank??? Do yours not grow?
Only one of her plecos (the common) is a large species, the other three stay pretty small.

wow a whole head of letus, my plec is just a littel guy at the moment, a 10g suits him fine, but i don understand ill have to part with him evenually  i could always donate him to the city zoo's aquarium, they have a huge 5000 gallon tropical tank, with huge fishes...dont think they have a plec yet :D
