CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON MY PLECO , HES BEEN IN MY TROPICAL TANK FOR A LONG TIME WITH A TELESCOPIC FANTAIL , AN APPLE SNAIL , 6 TETRAS , AN ANGLE FISH AND A KISSING GUAMI , HES ALWAYS BEEN VERY PLACID AND QUIET BUT 3 DAYS AGO HE WAS BEING VERY AGGRESSIVE AND CHASING THE FANTAIL ALL OVER THE TANK AND KEPT TRAPPING IT IN THE CORNER AND REALLY SUCKING AND BITING ONTO HIM , THIS WAS VERY DISTRESSING FOR ME TO WATCH AND IT WENT ON FOR 2 DAYS TILL THE FANTAIL EVENTUALLY DIED YESTERDAY , THEN WHEN I GOT UP THIS MORNING THE APPLE SNAIL WAS LYING ON ITS BACK AND THE PLECO SITTING RIGHT UP TO IT , I TURNED THE SNAIL OVER AND HE STILL HAD SOME LIFE LEFT IN HIM BUT DOESNT LOOK TO GOOD , THEN I SAW THE PLECO REALLY GO FOR ONE OF THE SILVER TETRAS , IM VERY CONCERNED AS TO WHY ITS STARTED ACTING LIKE THIS , CAN ANYONE HELP OR SUGGEST WHAT I SHOULD DO ??? THE PLECO IS VERY LARGE APPROX 8" LONG AND IVE HAD HIM FORM BEING TINY .

I'll move your thread over to the section where they specialize in plecos. One of the things you will probably be asked is the size of your tank and if you know the test readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. If you could post them, it will help the members answer.

agreed it nearly put me of reading it

alot of fish change personality my catfish and plecos are usualy very quiet and collective but they can somtimes be agressive

ps does the pleco chase the fish when disturbed in a cave. many plecos can be territorial when older

just out of interest what temp is the tank?

the reason i ask is because most are tropical but the fantail is a goldfish

the pleco is approx 8/9 " long and the tank is 3 foot tank on cabinet . i feed it algae wafers plus greens ie lettuce , cucumber , it also eats the tropical flakes when i put them in . now that the fantail has died he is keep turning the apple snail over and biting and sucking on it , i have to keep turning the snail back over ......i took these fish over from my grandson and he bought the pleco when it was just tiny .
