Hi All,

wondered if anybody had any ideas about how to stop my Pleco from digging up the plants in my tank. Past few mornings I have come downstairs to find at least one plant has been uprooted and floating around. Because of the Plecs size (LFS told me he was 18 inches but after rough measuring he seems only to be a good 14 inches long!!!!!!!!) even putting rocks around the plants does not seem to deter him.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am getting sick of putting my hands in fishy water every morning :)

Cheers

Julie

Yea,

Im not entirely sure about the size of that pleco, that is alot of "waste" produced in a tank that small. They produce alot of waste, and a plec that size? i tread to think.
Not sure is its a good idea to keep a plec that size in your tank? :/

Anyhow, back on topic......
If the plec is knocking the plants around and uprooting them, i would suggest either taking the plants out, taking him out and put him in a tank with little and robust vegitation, or secure the plants will LARGE rocks....
Thats what id do :)

Good luck with Pickford ;)

Only a temporary measure til my new tank gets cycled :)
Might just have to invest in some very large rocks, can't have a tank without plants doesn't look homely :D

Cheers

My Pleco is only 7inches at the mo and he already likes to move my tank around, for some reason he didnt want the plants at the back of the tank he wants them at the front, so i left him to it, then he up rooted them altogether, so i put them back and we did the whole game again.

In the end i took the pants out, my plec had up-rooted them so many times that they started to look messy. I have replaced them with some nice looking plastic plants which so far have managed to stay where they are.

Im sure they wont stay there for long though.
