Pleco Numbers Is There An Index Somewhere?

Was just asking questions and looking around (not my usual pet store) and asked about algse munchers for my tank they said an L1 would only grow to 6" knowing what pet stores can be like and as I am only thinking about it I came home with a new ammonia testing kit and thought I woukd ask about it here. Is there an Index for all the L numbers? I have been wandering round this forum but could not find anything.

ETA- Just had a bigger wander round after finding out an L1 was a sailfin/ Golden spotted Pleco on google- definately not a great choice for a 60Litre tank!!! Either that or a huge excuse for an upgrade

Thanks had found that one, He said that they were L001 and would only reach 8" (currently 3") and said it would be fine in a 60Litre I just thought yup fine for now if it doesn't mind getting stunted poor thing! Is the LFS man talking out of his bum?

Yes. Or maybe he means if you keep it in a 60lt tank it will only grow to 8" but he failed to say that this would be due to stunting the poor little fish. Planetcatfish is a great site very worthwhile starting your new pleco research there.

id say needs around a 4x2x2 tank maybe less but yea hes defo talkin outaa his bum.

I would say 4x2x2 would be the minimum. Really a 6x2x2 or bigger but lets be realistic that a pretty big tank. Say the fish reaches 1' (could well get bigger) it would be a really big fish for a 4' tank.
