:dunno: i have a pleco who is about 8inchs and has been in my pond all summer, can it stay in the pond through winter or does it have to come indoors? the only thing is i dont think it will fit in my tank anymore..

Well that all depends on where in the world you live!

If you live somewhere where the pond will not get colder than 20 celcius all winter guarenteed, then yes, your pleco can live perminently in a pond as long as it's got a filter.

If you live somewhere that gets a proper winter like the UK, most of Europe and most of North America then no, if the pond freezes or just gets a little chilled then your pleco will die.

So. where in the world do you live?

If you live in Zone 8 (Plant Hardiness Scale) or warmer, you may be able to leave it out year round. Just remember, the zone system is based average minimum temp.

I live in Oregon U.S. and know someone that left a pleco in his pond year round. It lived happily for two winters and on the third one died. If you love your Pleco as said above I would not try it unless you have very warm winters. oooh oooh or a pond heater :)
