Just checking with yourselves as peope in the know.

I inherited this Pleco with a tank I bought. It was described as a Goldspot Pleco but it doesn't look to me like other Goldspot Pleco's. Is this a Goldspot, a hybrid of one or another Pleco entirely?
The little spots are in fact Gold in colour but the patterning all seems wrong and it has a Lyretail although you can't see it in the pics.

Apologies for the bad pictures.

Oooops.

You are right that isn't a Goldspot, this is Acanthicus adonis, the largest Loricarid.

The spots will be gone completely soon, some more info below

OUCH!!

I think the words i'm looking for rhyme with "Clucking Bell!!"

That could be a slight problem!!

Lovely fish but that was housed with two Featherfin Catfish, two spotted Talking Catfish, Three Striped Talking Catfish and two 10" Oscars. All in a Jewel Rio 400 5ft'er.This was the tank stock before I bought it.
The tank is cleaned out and not used, it'll be going into the Library and will house my Dad's Parkinsoni, Praecox, Lacustris, Bosemani and Banded Rainbows and his couple of large Bristlenose Catfish.
I only kept the Pleco as I did like it and thought, if it's a Goldspot it'll grow no further than 14" max so, I could conceivably have a place for it. 40" is pushing it though!! I may just have to get a slightly bigger tank!! LOL

Or maybe build an indoor pond!!

Cheers for the Heads Up. :good:

Well mate I don't like to do things by halves!!

If i'm going to get a Pleco and it's going to be too big for my tank,it may as well be the Collosal one!! :D

I just hope I can find it a good home.

I miss our big common, theres something dinosaur-ish about a massive pleco :)

Very true, the bigger ones, especially those that look like they have armoured scales do look very Prehistoric like.

They're not pretty like other fish but they have a definite appeal about them don't they?

Public aquarium like the Deep in Hull or Blue Planet in Chester would be my starting point.

That's a little way for me to travel unfortunately as i'm across the pond from you guys in Northern Ireland. Good idea though as I doubt the local LFS, even with their large tanks for Koi and Goldfish wouldn't be interested. I might try Exploris and see if they want it gifted to them.
The ironic thing is I saw one of these Pleco's just in with my LFS, it was about 3" long and advertised as £25. If onlld sell it on you could sell it by the inch, it'd be worth over £50!!

Anyway, it'll give me an excuse to go over to have a look at the place again as I haven't been there in a long time.
