my lfs has a couple pl*cos listed as blue eyed gold pl*cos, has anyone heard of these? they're $100! a couple had bristles, so i asked if they were sure they weren't albino bristlenoses, but they said, nope, they're blue eyed gold pl*cos. are they right or full of it?

There are 2 types of "blue eyed" plec. One is a panaque and can grow absolutly huge. The other is a Blue Eyed Hypostomus.

Neither of them tend to have bristles, but are nice looking plecs. Just remember if you are thinking of buying one they both grow large.

The only other thing as you suggest is that it could be a blue-eyed albino. You do get albino bristlenoses so this is a possibility, although their eyes tend to be more red than blue.

this could be because they definitely did not have red eyes...but the bristles throw me off, because it wasn't like stubble, they had a bunch of bristles

Blue eyed gold- also known as the black-eyed gold is a true golden bristlenose and not a lutino or albino.

L number is L144.

They are more expensive than common albinos or natural coloured ancistrus, but $100 is still rather steep as they breed reletively easily.

you stole my thunder SirMinion! i just found out what it was and i was going to come back here and be proud of myself for figuring it out....but, noooo, you had to go and find it already. :p j/k.

yeah, i figured $100 was a little too much for me, especially since i wasn't sure what it was. if they had them priced like i saw online (ranging form $6-25) i would probably pick up a few, but not for a hundred bones.

thanks for your help (and beating me to the punch)

Quick because I didn't need to look it up.

I've been after some more of this species for over a year now ever since I found one mixed in with some commons last year.

they are pretty nice looking. if it wasn't for their price tag, i'd definitely look into picking one up. i don't know if you remember that thread a while back where i was trying to find what kind of pleco was in a display tank at my lfs

but i think it is probably a female of the L144 (although her color is a little more orange than theirs, but they could be stressed some). i should probably go back and get them to put one of the males in that display tank so they could (hopefully) breed. maybe they'd sell them then at a more reasonable price
