Hi all,

Just a bit of friendly advice please if you can. I have carried out a seach on the forums but didn't find any relevant information.

I have a common plec that is behaving and eating fine. I noticed earlier a little black spot on the underside of him on what I can only describe as his cheek lol.
It looks a little like a freckle, about 3mm wide. It isn't 'fluffy' but I can't get a good look because he's trying his best to not show me :D

I'm not sure how long this has been there or whether it is growing etc.

Water stats have been fine recently (earlier in the week), although run out now so cannot check current stats.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hmm deseases can look different on pleco's due to their tough and bristly skin. I would treat the pleco with an anti external bacterial med (like pimafix) just to be on the safe side and make sure there aren't any sharp things in the tank the pleco could have injured itself on. What stats have you been testing for recently and what sort of results have you been getting?

Thanks very much mate,

Tested for nitrite and ammonia, both 0.
Ph of 7.

Could it possibly be a bruise? I did recently do a water change where he got a little excited and snashed into the bogwood etc.... possible reason?

Will treat to be safe and see if it goes,

Cheers :drinks:

Yeah if the affected area on the pleco matches the area which he knocked himself on that could be it; i had a similar thing happen last year with my largest common pleco, she used to constantly chased the other plecos when she was kept with them and one day ended up injuring herself on a sharp peice of driftwood as she swam over it. Some Pimafix and a little Melafix and lots of small regular water changes with dechlorinator completely cleared the wound up within a month though :good: .

Sorry for not replying sooner to your advice. I have acted on what you said, and it isn't getting any worse, so hope it is just a bruise.

Thank you very much :good: I appreciate your assistance.

PS....Thanks also to Wilder for acknowledging my request xxxx

Glad to help- its a good sign at the least if it isn't getting any worse, hope your plec makes a full recovery as you continue the treatment- keep us updated if anything changes :good: .
