my 10 gallon planted tank is comming along nicley, my only issue with it is that there is alot of crap ontop of the sand and my dwarf frogs kick it around and it makes a mess out of my plants. i bought 2 ottos thinking that i might help. but so far not much. i was thinking of going ith some shrimp, but befor i do i wanted to know if anyone knows of a pleco i might be able to put in there. im a big fan of plecos, and would prefers one over the shrimp. if no im just going to put some cherry shrimp in.

I think 10 gallon is way too small for any kind of pleco. Besides, plecos produce #105###loads of waste. Fishes or shrimps are not going to eat poo, you need to clean it up yourself.

I wouldn't also put a frog in a same tank with fishes.

thats what i figured about the plec, and its not really poop, its mostly just food. and african dwarf frogs get along just fine with fish, i have never had any issues other than a very large rainbow shark (6 inches) eating one once. but the bettas dont mind at all. the tank is very well planted and the frogs keep to themselves.

a plec wont make your sand any cleaner, it will just make it a lot worse.

regular 'hoovering' or powerful flow/filtration are the only possible ways of getting the crap up off the sand.

If it's mostly just food, you're giving too much of it.

I wouldn't also put a frog in a same tank with fishes.

can i ask why not, i know a few people who have had them with fish with no issues, or were they just lucky? maybe it depends on the speices

you can keep dwarf frogs with fish as long as the fish wont eat the frog, the ones that can be a little mean are clawed frogs...at least from what i have read.

the food is massivor tabs that i put in for the frogs/ottos.

i have to get a smaller gravel vac so i can clean it, im afraid my big one that i have will just suck all the sand and water out of the tank.

Sounds like you are overfeeding.

Plecs and planted tanks don't mix well and yes that is too small for most species.

i usually only put in one tad every 2 days or so. the water is clear som im not really worried about it, its just that some of the sand is dirty. all in all i guess its reall not that big of a deal. im going to get a small vac next week.
