pleco confusion

hi all
after getting rid of my half grown sailfin pleco, I've been looking for a suiatable replacement.
I am getting confused as to which ones don't grow bigger than 6" or so 8" max.
below is a list of the ones we have at work, but I really need the L# to help me decide which will be best.
I hope that someone can provide what I need.
(btw don't link me to planet catfish as that why I'm confused. I need L#s' people not links; thanks)

Tiger pleco (also gold tiger)
clown pleco
leopard pleco
rusty pleco
rubbernose/bullnose? pleco
green spotted pleco
bristlenose pleco

Hi Paul, out of that list...

Ancistrus - is it brown with light tail and fin tips?
Its probubly a common bristle nose - so about 5"

gibbiceps - L083, L165, L196 = Sailfin - not for you

Tiger pleco (also gold tiger) - depends what type - but all will be about 5"

clown pleco - L104 about 4"

leopard pleco -
Might be an L134 - Leopard frog plec - is it yellow and brown?
If so a great plec - about 4"
Might be an L114 - Leopard Cactus Plec - brown reticulated patture with orange?
If so It get to about 10" but loog amazing.

rusty pleco -L077 around 10"

rubbernose/bullnose? pleco L187? there a few types - spotty striped etc. a good choice - about 5-6"

green spotted pleco - Possibly an L200 - about 8" but a stunner

bristlenose pleco - see the first - should be fine

marbled pleco - Probubly a colour morph of a common - avoid.

The loverly Brucilla was out and about today. He's sooo gorgeous. I am considering getting another plec for my 5ft!


Wolf> Brucilla is a leopard frog plec and is ace. I have always like bulldog plecs too. I suppose it depends what's available in your area or are you going Trimar?

thanks for the help smithrc, it is appreciated; however I doubt the marbled pleco is a morph of the common as it is £18.95 (retail) and commons are a fiver.

I'm glad the tigers only get to 5" I really like them even at £20 for the std and £25 for the golden one.
