Been offered a gibby plec who is 8" for my 55 gallon tank. The owner said that he was in tank alone as his LPS said that it would eat all his small fish?

I have tigerbarbs in tank and 3 small neons, do you think they would be lunch for it? i was going to give him my rusty plec for his one.

He calling me back soon so would love advice a.s.a.p

Thanks

Zoe

You shouldn't have any problems, Larger plecs can be slightly territorial but i've never found one that will chase and eat fish.
bear in mind though he will grow to around 22inches

zoe i would not recommend you put it in for the sheer size they will get

they are really clumsy and your ever so pritty tank will be a mess you might want to think about getting a smaller plec

or buy a 6x2x2 tank

cheers dane

I have a 15" Common in with smallish community fish (65 uk gals tank) and they are fine. He only chases them away from the food, as soon as his back is turned they are on the food again! It may be possible to get a rogue fish I suppose but I have found my Common to be peaceful. As Dane says they are big and can uproot plants accidentally. My plants are ok but more delicate types are destroyed very quickly. :) PS The Gibby will ultimately get much larger than my Common.

yes thats a gibby.

i'll echo what the others said, a 55 aint big enough and it will hit twice the size its at now no problem.

how could you consider giving away your rusty for the gibby. rusty's are beautiful fish and a nice sensible size. mine is one of my favourite fish

I don't think plecos eat other fish, let alone catch them.

This doesn't count dead fish, though.
