hi, i am new to this forum, and fishkeeping. i have a male, brown, long fin bristlenose plec, which i wish to breed. my question is. as there are so many variations of these fish has the female got to be the exactly the same as the male. a brown, long fin bristlenose? or do they interbreed. any information on this would be very helpfull. thank`s, john.

They can cross breed with other colour and fin variates. If you where to breed him with a brown shortfin female all the fry would be longfin because its the dominant gene but they would all have the short fin gene aswell so if yo breed the fry you would get a mix of long and short fins. Same thing goes for if you bred him with a albino female the brown gene would be dominate so all the fry would be brown but have the albino gene.
