Hi I bought a beautiful plec which is four times the size it was at the beginning I have a 40l tank. I want to buy a bigger tank I have 2 Clown Loaches 2 silver sharks however the rest are small platys Gouramis and my favourite tetras and I have just been given 3 guppies.
Now for the big tank for my favourite plec I want to keep what size will i need. I was told they grow big but never hurt you ? Is that true. Yes i am scared of big fish but he's well ? maybe she is placid and I wanna keep him/her. so to keep him yes he ? how do you tell ....to keep him small but give him space how big will I need.

Hi,

If its a common plec or a sail fin you can expect it to grow 18 - 24 inches. The clown loaches can grow 12 inches and the silver sharks 14 inches so i would aim to get a 100 gallon + tank. Large plecs are usually harmless to other fish but can be territorial with each other. The main problems they cause are uprooting plants and inhaling small fish when they are sleeping on the tank floor at night.

Thanks the only problem is 450 litre tank will take up an awful lot of room 10 times the size of mine. Lots of H2o . The clown loaches are about 3" the silver sharks 4.5" and the plec is about 5". at the moment Dunno what he is I just love him ... well he's cute. Not for long as he will get long, he has a fin that stands upright fan shaped on his back. He's lovely but well I guess 6Ft tank is required to keep him. When the shop sells you these do they bank on you going for a larger tank? They sold the 40l tank to me but sems they are hard for the begginner but one does get hooked. Thanks. Anne
