Plec Id

I saw a pleco at a fish shop in town today... It was a pale grey colour with white dots. The dots were quite big compared to the dots you see an Adonis...It was about 2.5-3 inches in size. Can anyone id?

grey with white dots... nothing springs to mind...

did it look like it could have been a stressed black fish with white dots??

is so then there are loads to choose from...

Your best bet would be to have a look at Planet Catfish and have a look through the Cat-elog. Would it be possible for you to get a photo of the fish.

Yea I looked on Planet Catfish but it will take forever to look through all those pics! Didn't think about getting a photo, don't visit that shop often so probably won't see it again.

I couldn't find any thing that fitted the grey with white spots description...

when you say spots... do you mean like this?

I spotted it (no joke intended) in a pet shop in town. I don't buy fish from there but it is pretty cool.
I like the big white spots. I'm waiting to find out the name so i can research it..Im tempted!

It is almost certain that what you have seen is a stressed plec of some description. Any number of the black plecs with white spots would look grey if stressed. The one pictures above is the LDA33 "Big White Spotted Plec". I have one of these and it is a jet-black colour whith vivid large white spots. When i origianlly bought him he wasnt quite so black because the fish shop wasnt keeping it in the best of conditions.

That is Spot - Our Large white spot (as Bunji said its an LDA33 or L142 if you prefere)

That was a piccy of him the day we got him and after a 30 min drive in a bag.
He is normally jet black with striking white spots

he'll get to 6-8" but is a slow grower.

I was going to give the shop the benefit of the doubt and continue to protest that he was grey! But knowing the shop he probably was meant to be black. Thanx Smithrc n Ben, just out of interest are there any grey plecs?

There are a couple, things like bulldog plecs, they tend to be grey or grey with darker spots. There is also a grey panaque pleco with blue-ish eyes. The only other one i can think of is the Sultan Pleco L264... There may be more but i am not going to trawl through planetcatfish to look
