At first glance it looks like a female, dont see any whiskers on it's nose, how large is it ? I thought it was a starlight at first glance, nice looking plec..
Hopefully one of the plec folks will be along shortly to help you out

Looks like a female common BN. It looks quite big in the pic and since it hasnt got any bristles i would say defiantly female.

its nearly 5 inches. i have another which is smaller with a few bristles on its lip, i think i may have two females. do the bristles on the males come out only when mature?

The males will start to get bristles at about 2". If its only 2-3" and has quite a few bristles i would say male.
