My Plec used to be dark grey and black but has recently gone a light brown colour, should i be worried? He is about 3 inches long and seems happy and healthy apart from the colour change.

Hi,

What type of plec is it? Some plecs change colour as they age, others don't. Knowing the species will help us to work out if this is normal. Colour changes in fish can also be a sign of stress. Have you noticed any bullying going on? Does the water qualtiy check out ok? Anything changed in or near the tank recently? When you have water stats, can you please post them. How long have you had him? If you have not had him long it may just be that he has not settled properly yet.

Nitrite and amm 0, nitrate 10, had him a few months now. I don't know what he is, just a common plec. Nothing in with him that would bully, just guppies and bristle nose cats. I did move him into this tank a few weeks ago as i took in a huge plec for a friend and was worried they wouldn't get along. The huge plec has now gone to a new home, should i move him back do you think?

Here he is.

Looks perfectly healthy :good: Fish often change colour when growing or under different circumstances (sometimes temporarily patchy in places to blend with surroundings).

O.k thanks, that's good to know. He has been that colour pretty much since I moved him, will he change back do you think?

Maybe he's sick of all the guppies buzzing round him! I think I'll move him back in the grown up tank when i get a chance.
