ok... heres the deal... my bettas started getting this black discoloration at the edge of fins (two males mainly.. red fins are delicate i hear). when i got them in the mail... they were in a bag of water for 4 days... the day i got them.. i adjusted them slowly to the new water type.... eventually i got them in their new containers. i used all the water in the bag... plus about the same amount of new water. i left then for a day or two (didnt want to shock em... long trip you know). well... they got that dark coloring i mentioned above. its a kinda fuzzy looking darkness... its on the body slightly... and at the base of fins too... but it just looks like the color of the fish. well... the darkness at the tip of fines slowly started proceeding... until it got about 1/8 - 1/4 inch wide. the fin itself actually started to erode also... the fin "bones" are now poking out with the fin kinda scragly looking... i started changing their water daily at this point. then... i think the second day... i used a mild application of fungus eliminator...then... changed water every day... cleaned poo... and about two days later i used another application of eliminator... and started using very mild aqua salt. its been about a week now... the dark discoloration has stopped proceeding (i think).. and where it was dark... the fin turned really translucent... but still has light darkness on it. i would rather not use antibiotics (i know how bad they are for people!)... and i dont know what this is... some say fin rot... some say it isnt. i dont know... the eliminator seemed to work. i will buy other chemicals if needed to treat this.... but once the black stuff is perty much gone... i plan on getting some melafix... to try to get the fins to repair and recolor. please tell me what yall thinkk... ive posted at some other places... but not much diversity in answers. i will keep doing what i am doing... maybe slack off on the eliminator.. but i hope someone out there has had this too and knows what it is and how to treat it. also.. do yall know if the fins will grow back with color?? some say the color never comes back... translucent... .. alright yall... thanks... peace
