Please Identify This Fish!

I have inherited this fish from a friend and am wondering what it is and what it can be kept with. I believe it to be a cichlid of some sort. It is about 6 inches in length.

I saw one of these earlier in the LFS but it was a baby one....

The one in that picture is a baby one. An adult severum is fully 8 inches long.

what size tank will you be keeping him in? they need a largeish tank and fairly robust tankmates

Whats fish friends do you advise for it?
Will it eat smaller fish?
I know the people who had him last kept him with silver shark.
Ive been keeping him in a tank (approx 25 by 15 inchs) by himself for a few months now, Simply because the 'big' tank was full of little fish and wasnt willing to risk lowering my count of little fish.

Red necked/shouldered Severum, he will need a 55g, preferably 75g tank for full potential size and a happy life. Nice looking fish
