I thought he was getting better... he even ate a little today. but then I noticed a couple whit spots on his little front fins. So, I did a full water change and put some BettaFix in there. I got him back in the bowl, and he was swimming around, and now I see that his bottom fin is torn.. split right in half. I have no idea what caused it, or how to fix it.

He's back to not eating, he's just taking it and spitting it right back out. Someone suggested that the pellets might be a bit big for him, so I'm going to get some baby ones for him tomorrow.

What can I do?

have you tried giving frozen worms or live worms??

when my fish are feeling a bit under the weather tey will still always eat live food.

as for the tail split try a bit of melafix, thats should do the trick

Is BettaFix the same thing as melafix? Because, I'm already using BettaFix.

Hm... It sounds he has ich... if he does... may i suggest you get some super ich cure? i've had tremendous success with it good luck

What's ich? Is it something I did that made him get it?

Now he's trying to burrow under his marbles... he'll try to get under them, then back out and swim around a bit, then try to get under them again. I'm really worried about him. :(

Maybe it's just my paranoia, but he looks worse every time I look at him. He's looking rather pale, and his fins look almost shriveled, and he's just sitting on his marbles. He comes up every few minutes for air and then sits back on the marbles. He's not laying on his side, thank goodness, but it still doesn't look good. :(

I've noticed this a lot. A lot of bettas have started going nuts. I've seen at least 6 other threads with people with this same problem.

I really don't know what's going on with our water... though my guess it has something to do with the season.

I don't think he's going to make it... he's not even coming up for air anymore... just sitting there, completely still. I thought I lost him a few minutes ago... I shook the bowl and he didn't move. I was getting ready to move the bowl to take him out of it, and when I moved it, he swam to the top.

Okay, as I'm typing this, he just swam up for air... but it's been a good five minutes at least, and he just swam a circle, and then went right back to the bottom. It's not looking good for him. :-(

I hate to say it, but I think he's done.

Just make sure he's warm and the water's clean so he can die in ease. :-(

The white spots on the little fin..(Ventral)? , is probably fungus. Bettafix will not kill it. Use Mardels Maroxy for fungus. There are other brands, but Maroxy is not a harsh med, and works very well. He is either fighting a fungus problem by itself, or has parasites, and the fungus is a secondary infection. Clean water, everyday, and re medicate. Get a fungus med. Bettafix will (help) aid in the healing, not the curing.

Gosh, he's such a trooper. I finally had to go to sleep at about 2:15 this morning, and when I woke up, there he was swimming around in his bowl! I fed him two pellets, and he actually ate them!!! :D He still looks a bit sickly, though, and there's a couple of very small white/gray spots on his back. What could those be?

Well, from what I have read about ich, I think that's what my little fishie has. So, I went to the store today and got a 1 Gal. tank for him with a light to warm the water and an under-gravel filter. I also bought some water conditioner so that I could condition the tap water as opposed to using drinking water (it removes Chlorine and Chloramine and detoxifies Ammonia), and I bought some melafix. I have the tank all set up, and I'm just waiting for the water to warm to room temperature so that I can transfer my little Sakana to his new home, and hopefully heal him up. :)

If anyone has any other ideas on what I can do to help him even more, please let me know.

When my fish get ich I usually just turn their tank temp up to 80-81 degrees to help slow the growth rate and break the life cycle of the parasite. With bettas it is alright to put some aquarium salt into their tanks as well. There are ich cures out there though. Medications containing malachite green or methylene blue help fight the battle against ich.

well, I think it was my fault. I just got a thermometer today, and realized that he has been in 72 degree water. :( I didn't realize that it was that cold. His new aquarium is a 1 gallon, though, and it has a light that I hope will make the water warmer. If it doesn't, I will look into getting a mini-water heater, or a warmer lamp or something. But, he is in his new home, with treated tap water and MelaFix. I'm hoping that solves things... will MelaFix help ich, or do I need something else?

If the whitish grey spots are like salt particles..it is ich. if it is a flat spot of color on the fish, it is probably columnaris.
