i have a large 50 gal tank currently housing tropicals. I am bring the tropicals back to the store and planning to go back to goldfish. I have a big black moor in another tank and plan to rehouse him in the 50 gal.

my question is can i house small fancy golfish in the 50 with a black moor thats about 5-6 inches? I want to make sure that the moor wont eat the smaller fish, although there is a beta in with him not and they are like best friends!!I know all the rules about inches of fish per gal and i am also aware that gold fish are dirty and need more room per inch than tropicals.

I plan to get 6-7 new fancys and and raise them till they get big enough to be in a year round pond. Where i live it costs a fortune to buy larger fish for a pond so i plan to raise fish until they are big enough to go in a pond and give them to friends and family who have ponds but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars stocking them. It may take a few years to help everybody out but i get to enjoy raising the fish till then. I will keep getting little ones as the others are big enough.

It should be ok to put the big one with smaller fish as long as the smaller ones are at least 2 inches long. To avoid adding disease quarantine any new arrivals for a month to make sure they are disease and parasite free. For a 50 gallon tank with one already in, I think 4 others would grow quite quickly to a desired size for you.

it should be okay as the bigger fish will be slower than the small fancy fish, am i right? :/
