I don't think my pleco has any disease yet but I was moving some stuff around in my aquarium to make room for a new cave. I didn't see my pleco in one of the caves I was moving and I just looked at him and he has at least one scrape on his head, he's very shy so I couldn't get a really good look. Is there anything I can, or should do or will it heal itself? I feel really bad now, so any help is appreciated.

it should heal up on its own, one of my rosey barbs likes to do circles around a rock and took it to close one day and scraped the top real bad but it healed up on its own within a week. Also read up on salting the aquarium which should speed up the process.

:fish: If you keep up on the water quality then your fish should heal by itself, lots of fish get damaged accidentally and heal fine without lots of different chemicals.
Water changes can do a lot more good than people realise. :D

Ok, thanks for the replies, knowing it will heal itself has calmed me down a lot. I always do 2 water changes a week so water quality shouldn't be a problem.

pop some melafix in the tank as this should prevent any infection while the plecs skin heals. It is made from tea tree oil and is a bit smelly, but absolutley brilliant for any abrasion or fungal infection

Can I get melafix from Petsmart? If so I'll get some Sunday when I'm going to be near there. (It isn't fun when the closest pet store is 45 minutes away)

Loved the melafix! It smells great (just keep in mind that the smell of gasoline dosen't bother me either) and worked on my pleco that got stuck in a feeder (shredded fins, scrapes, and a gash)! Don't think I would add the salt though, dosen't seem to be the recomendation of may of the long timers here - I mean for plecos.................... They may recomend it for other things.

Plecos are fast healers. My salvini somehow bit a hole in the plecos fin and it only took a week for it to completely heal. As long as its not deep, most fish can take scrapes. Just be sure your water is in good shape.
