:-( :-( :-( My Dalmation Molly got sick a few days ago, he seemed to get better but today he looks worse, he's laying on a floating plant breathing hard. He CAN swim, it's just like he dosn't want too. He's in a one gallon non-filtered as a hospital tank with some snails in it. I'd been feeding him peas because it looked like swim bladder and there are some non-eaten ones at the bottom of the tank. Should I clean it? What should I do. Please tell me if you know because his mate seems really lonely, she's chasing her reflection like she thinks it's him. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
Now he's lying on the bottom leaning to the left like he's trying too lie down, I'm afraid he's giving up. I don't want him to suffer, but I also want to live. WHAT SHOULD I DO???!!

Im afraid that once they've crashed to the bottom like that, its a very bad sign. Definitely clean the tank, if food isnt eaten in 5 mins take it out, a fish can go weeks without eating if they dont want to.
can you test the water in the 1 gallon? it sounds like ammonia or nitrite poisoning, so change some water by putting in tank water and add a half tea-spoon of salt.

Thanks, he did have nitrate poisining because my new 20gallon's nitrates were too high. It made him sick and killed some others. Just to let you know he passed away in peace yesterday. :-( Poor fishy, I feel REALLY sorry for his mate because she seems really lonely. But also, because of the nitrates, (which are good now, thank goodness!) One of my Sunset fire plattys died. So the Male platty and the female molly have become friends because of that. Oh well, always look for the good in the bad, all clouds have a silver lining and all that. After a while I'll add some more mollys & plattys of the same species after a while, but I want to make sure the nitrates are PERFECT first. It really does make a difference. Do snails really lower nitrates? I think they do because some of them came in on the plants I bought, and the nitrates lowered after a while, but it may just be a coincidence. 8)
