its an Female Australian Redclaw Cherax quadricarinatus. or Blue Lobster. this is a definitive ID so dont worry its legal in the UK.

it needs a 20ukg tank minimum, and is tropical.
I will offer any other help you require. just post here.

cheers it was your write up i read on the australian redclaw but after doing image searchs on google i found it hard to tell the differnce so just wanted to make sure shes currently in my 450 litre tank with my 2 common plecos a rainbow shark 1 clown loach as the others have now passed and my cichlids which are going to be rehomed soon as theyre getting large and starting to fight between there selves.

what would you recommend is best to keep with her as ive read mixed reviews on keeping them in community tank and species only tanks thanks alot louis and pinchy :hyper:

I could never recommend keeping them in a community tank, even though i always have. that said, my current Cray, will soon have a 35g all to herself.
if your cray lives long enough, it will soon make a 20g tank, look too small. my current cray is now 6.5 inches, nose to tail. if you add claws she is over 10 inches. and she is still not 1 yet.

however, there are some basic rules that, SEEM, to help:
1. for a community and a CRAY. you will need a MINIMUM of 50ukg. better around 100ukg.
2. tank must be 2 feet deep and no less.
3. the Cray must be mature (7-12 months old)
4. the fish, and tank, must be mature too. (12-18 months).
5. no aggressive fish
6. lots and lots of hides. all of varying sizes.
7 (applies to all REDCLAWS) you need a platform no more than 12 inches below the surface.
8. no male redclaws (this is my experience)
9. keep the temperature in the low 70's
10.and finally there are no guarantees.

despite the above. PLEASE DONT. wait till you have more experience with Cray, first.
